It's lots of gorgeous piccies and it'll looks good but what does the text contain that's worth learning? I want to know about the techniques, their practice and development. I know of Villard de Honnecourt but I don't know what inks he used or how he drafted his drawings. How did mezzotint develop, does it have parallels in other cultures. Also that definition is just plain wrong, we call it illustration because it illuminates (or throws light upon) the text, road signs communicate through pictorial means, but they're not illustrations.DeadSpiderEyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07687178085803686186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-29359122791821720762018-07-29T19:41:36.259-04:002018-07-29T19:41:36.259-04:00I have the Walt Reed and Susan Meyer books so now ...I have the Walt Reed and Susan Meyer books so now I'm gonna have to skip some meals and save for this one. I understand your worries about academic authors who may slant their coverage of a topic toward the political realm, and am happy to know that by your estimation, in this book, that didn't happen. I also used to teach art history, and my preferred text was Gardner's. That text also pretty much steered clear of politics, although it's difficult when discussing art history in general. So much of art was generated by the political times, for instance, the stele which depicted the Code of Hammurabi. The two went hand in hand. I have let my family know that this book is on my wish list for my upcoming 65th birthday. Let's hope they oblige me!
