Yes, he had to place the figures around the car and then Van had to figure out how to reflect them. If the backgrounds were based on photos from their travels, where did the people come from, and who painted them? As part of the background, I assume Van did, but that would have left Fitz with having to figure out what their reflections would have looked like.
