The defining cast shadow on the red hydrant would be laid in rather transparently in oils ,i think (especially when being on a tight deadline as an illustrator).
Here it seems as if it was done as thickly as the light part.
Maybe someone else can voice his opinion on that.gyrusdentushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09341030219039601761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-72488680338731058952015-09-09T21:06:03.660-04:002015-09-09T21:06:03.660-04:00I agree with your statement about Gouache lending ...I agree with your statement about Gouache lending itself to clarity and detail, but so far in my very limited knowledge of the medium, I'm super slow at it. I wonder how the Gouache compares to Oil (alla prima) when it comes to speed?Chris Beavenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13217004166402889504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-51607152768385060272015-09-09T10:10:24.861-04:002015-09-09T10:10:24.861-04:00Illustration Magazine, as important and useful as ...Illustration Magazine, as important and useful as it is, doesn't fit my budget as a regular purchase, but I just had to pop for this one. The Dohanos images (and the article too, I'm sure) are wonderful reminders that Rockwell, good as he was, wasn't the only game in town for these sorts of images. I look forward to it.

Tom Harthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04770238579550226268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-63450624683371480422015-09-09T10:08:59.898-04:002015-09-09T10:08:59.898-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Tom Harthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04770238579550226268noreply@blogger.com
