It was harder to find their work in print in his day, so not as easy to find it. The art books in Rockwell's studio were mostly familiar old masters like Michelangelo and Velazquez. But NR was involved with a lot of groups of illustrators and painters, and would have soaked up anything like a sponge.James Gurneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01870848001990898499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-70416332841725371082020-11-05T05:06:13.582-05:002020-11-05T05:06:13.582-05:00I wonder whether Norman Rockwell had ever seen the...I wonder whether Norman Rockwell had ever seen these paintings, with their story and wry humor and precision workmanship. They seem similar to me. Notice the elderly, underfed dog in the old veteran's home. I also noticed the Black people in most of the paintings. These are pre-Civil War - are those folks enslaved?Pyracanthahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08889551823810311793noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-82929590957156594832020-11-03T14:42:37.782-05:002020-11-03T14:42:37.782-05:00Too young to die...Too young to die...Sue dohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04325038233368900653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-52269312483415859692020-11-03T14:23:07.522-05:002020-11-03T14:23:07.522-05:00This painting could be called, "Me and My Dad...This painting could be called, "Me and My Dad."
