I love color mixing, and I love working with as few colors as possible and mixing the rest. Five colors is kind of exorbitant for me.

That said, I have built upon the diamonds here to make "extended diamonds" because pigments can be weird in different proportions.

Ah anyways here is my post. It's so simple I'm not sure it merits a post—basically just break up the corner triangles into a triangle plus two trapezoids, so you get three "color mix" areas per triangle side.

http://sinopiasaur.com/post/159426473186/ever-since-getting-more-than-one-watercolor-ive

It is perhaps a newbie's tool, but I'm always going to remember the mistake I once made that resulted in discovering the beautiful gray produced by DS viridian and DS quin magenta and that I would have uncovered sooner with the extended diamonds. ^_^Ava Jarvishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01777180628319261015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-48175971865740198142015-10-04T09:21:11.141-04:002015-10-04T09:21:11.141-04:00Carlos, yes, the second diagram is from Color and ...Carlos, yes, the second diagram is from Color and Light, which has a section on limited palettes, and a lot more.

With pan watercolors, it's a little harder to maintain the discipline of limited pigments unless you cover over the ones you don't want to use with tape or something.James Gurneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01870848001990898499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2999230124118604245.post-18682997966889919432015-10-04T08:32:43.194-04:002015-10-04T08:32:43.194-04:00James, is this kind of information included in ...James, is this kind of information included in 'Color and Light'? As a novice painter, your instructional videos are helping me a lot, but I feel that I need to get a good foundation in color. Also, do you use this kind of scheme for watercolors?
