I haven't been able to make peace with the empty space on the right in particular. The sign which gives the painting its name is a great visual element, but I don't feel it has enough interest on its own to counterbalance the placement of the figures, or even the space below it. There are a lot of strong diagonal elements but they don't seem to point to anything of purpose.
