Charles Vess "Drawing Down the Moon"

Charles Vess and Dark Horse Comics recently teamed up to create a spectacular illustrated overview of his career, spinning legends in watercolor, and evoking the spirits of the enchanted forest. In the comments that accompany the paintings, Charles describes the interesting adventures he has had as a painter, sculptor, and publisher.

"Drawing Down the Moon" is 200 pages, 9 x 12 inches, with vellum chapter headers showing the line drawing, followed by the same image in full color. The book retails at $39.00.

  1. Thanks for introducing her to me and all the new people getting into the art scene! Never heard of her before! Thanks!

  2. Charles is such an amazing artist and nice guy. I had the pleasure of spending studio time with him at last year's Illustration Master Class watching him work and drooling over some of his original paintings. His impromptu midnight lecture/slideshow of the history of fantasy art was spellbinding.

    Off to order his book!!

  3. What a gorgeous cover! No matter how much I try to keep track of artists I like, there is always news I miss. Thank you for sharing this!

  4. I remember reading the Gaiman stories of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Stardust by this guy. Such a hopelessly unmatchable hard fantasy aesthetic.
