Gouache Painting in the Colorado Wilderness

Here's a slice of the mountain forest in northern Colorado. It's a scene of organized chaos, which I deciphered in gouache.

Below is a 5-minute YouTube video that takes you through all the steps.

  1. Do you use the same brushes for your gouache that you use for your watercolors or do you keep separate sets of brushes for the two media? I have been hesitant to practice gouache because I'm nervous that they'll ruin my nice watercolor brushes in some way... :-/

  2. Beautiful music. I think from a video game, correct?

  3. In the video I was initially surprised at how bright a blue you chose for the shadows. But looking at the result it worked well. Served to remind me that any given color is relative to the overall painting and a deeper blue or violet would not have worked as well with the snow.
