Strange Light at the Tire Place

Yesterday while Jeanette was at the supermarket, I stood on the hill across from the discount tire place and imagined the world in different light.

Mavis Tire, casein 5 x 8 inches
The line written on the sketchbook page says: "They told us to meet the ship at midnight at the tire place."

This short video documents the painting process, but also sets up the mood and story a little more. If you're receiving this by email, you might need to follow this link to watch the video on Facebook.

  1. How Great! Your …I'm not sure what to call it. Childlike awe of the world? Sophisticated, wonderful goofiness? Whatever it is, coupled with your skill makes for amazing stuff. I'm assuming this was casein?

  2. Thank you Mr. Gurney. I really appreciate your constant exploration in art and your sharing of it. How much time does it take you to paint these little studies?

  3. Anthony, this one was really fast, 35 minutes, because it takes Jeanette 45 minutes to shop, and I drove 5 min each way to set up.

Thanks, Allen, glad you enjoyed the weird mood on this one. I think I listed to too many old science fiction radio shows when I was a kid.

  4. "The Coming of the Chromians". The story of an alien race wheeling down from the skies but not too tired to be tired.

  8. Great; really has that eerie feel I used to get while listening to the radio serials. And that was before playing the vid! Excellent way to turn a mundane subject into something special.
