After that I'll be doing an event at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, Maryland.
That event will take place on April 22nd from 5:00pm – 8:00pm, and will include two lectures and a demo. There may still be some spots available.
I love the way you so casually write, "I'm doing a few oil copies to get in practice for..." - ha! As if it was just a trifle.

Great rendering... Someday I hope to go... maybe the conference should be held someplace where there is ample parking and hotels within a budding artist's budget...

ReplyDeleteRecently I started learning to paint and I've copied a few Velazquez and Sargent, and one thing I noticed they understood really well is how to push the background tones to add to the sense of depth in the picture. In the portrait of Miguel Angelo, I love how he pushes the lighter background values along the shadow plane of the cheek, and how much of a difference it makes in the overall sense of balance in the whole thing.
