Hittin' the Skate Park

  1. Ahhh, now that's an aspirational image for me!

I bought a beautiful deck (just in case I chickened out and it needed to be a wall decoration), located an indoor skate park near me, and, now, I just have to bring the two pieces together, plus a helmet and however much time it takes to learn how to go forward, stop, and maybe steer a little.

The local Blick Art Supply now carries blank decks for painting. (What kind of paint would that call for?) I've sternly told myself I'm not allowed to buy one until I learn how to ride.

(Worst case, Frida Kahlo did amazing work while bedridden, right?)

  3. I agree with Steve. You're Photoshoped into that photo—right?

  4. Nice. It would be a pleasure if you check out my blog and help me by giving me some great tips to make it better as I'm pretty new to the blogging world. theworldoffact.blogspot.com

  6. Wow! Great Job, Jimi-Gi!
The light-source appears totally convincing! Even the spectator is looking right at you! Fantastic! And the clouds! The way they surround the central figure and add so much to the over-all design. This doesn’t even look like a painting! such great technique!! and Howed you get those shadows so accurate? … wait a minute!… that shadow isn’t right!
Your shadow on the skate-board is directly below you and runs along the middle and falls off the side, and the shadow on the ground has you way out on the TIP!!
    Whats with ThAT!
I don’t know. James, May be you should be spending more time in your initial layout and compossitjion.
I hope my critique doesn’t lead you to taking any drastic actions, after all it’s just a painting, or photo, or whatever.
From one Fool to an other: Happy April 1st -RQ

  8. Roberto, all credit goes to Michael Pronzato who took the photo, and Zachary Madere, my digital enabler. I'm about as good at Photoshop as I am at free soloing. But one can always learn, right?

  9. ...and then he went into traction and we never saw another new posting for a year.

  10. A year's "traction"? You mean James Gurney will end orbit and re-enter on 01.04.2020?

  17. Given the option, I too vote for the PhotoShop thingee. If not a put-up job, I will pray that you recover from any man-threatening injury you may have suffered.

  20. This is such an epic pic! Totally bodacious, my dude.

Between this and the announcement of Jeff Koons' sudden retirement, I had an inspiring if jarring morning online. (link: https://hyperallergic.com/492754/jeff-koons-announces-retirement-from-art/ )
