Georgy Nissky and the Severe Style

Georgy Nissky (Russian, 1903 - 1987) painted the industrial landscape of Russia in what became known as the severe style.

He did illustrations for newspapers, posters and billboards, always attracted to industrial subjects and the human landscape.

In the 1930s, many of his paintings develop angular rhythms, flat textures, and exaggerated shapes, often featuring railroads or other transport.
