Dinotopia Figurines

Soon after the first Dinotopia book was published, a lot of people were interested in seeing the idea translated into other forms, such as collectable figurines. I did a few sketches to explore the concept, and the idea appealed to me, but I never pursued it because of time. Either I would have to sculpt them, or I would have to supervise someone else doing it. I decided my time was better spent making writing and illustrating books.

  1. He, James, have you seen what happened to beloved artist Peter Robinson (TenHundred) when he put his playing card deck on Kickstarter?
Spoiler alert: His goal of 10k $ was reached within 3 minutes!

  2. Have you considered collaborating with a 3D artist to simply create digital versions of the figures? With the prevalence and ease of 3D printing, you could probably just reach out to some artists to create digital versions of Dinotopia characters and scenes, with a far greater level of detail than those figures could have provided. Coupled with an ease of printing than would have been possible even a couple of years ago.
