On previous Wednesdays, here and here, we’ve played a game called “Art By Committee,” where I give you an excerpt from an actual science fiction manuscript, and then you have a week to illustrate it.
Here’s an example from the original Art-By-Committee sketchbook. Please click on the image to enlarge.
The new excerpt for you is: “A wind—not moving air but currents of force—rose up and tore at her.”
James…your blog just blew me away. I’ve had a link to David Apatoff’s ‘Illustration Art’ on my blog/journal for a while now and very much enjoy his insight. I clicked on your name after reading your most recent comment on his blog, not knowing anything about you (I’m not an artist…and have very little knowledge of artist and art outside of my personal favourites…big names like Warhol, van Gogh, Picasso, Basquiat, Monet…) and I am utterly and profoundly impressed by not only your talent, but your willingness (and ability) to teach and share the wealth of knowledge you so clearly possess. I think it may have even caused me to have an epiphany of sorts. What that epiphany is, I’m not exactly clear on…but nonetheless, I just wanted to thank you for putting the time and effort into your blog that you do. Truly inspirational…now I’m actually glad I couldn’t sleep!
Welcome to Gurney Journey, Neil, and thanks so much for your compliments. Doing these posts is a real learning experience for me. By the way, I'm a great admirer of David Apatoff's blog Illustration Art, too.
Hi James, I'll definitely be participating but I'll have to send you my sketch tomorrow! It's been a busy week. But I'm so glad you're continuing Art By Committee for now.

ReplyDeleteI especially love the face on the right side.
