I suppose the world has changed a bit since the day twelve years ago when I sketched this inflight view of an open airline cockpit. It wasn’t too long ago that taxi cabs didn’t have partitions and that you could walk right into an elementary school—or the nation’s capitol.

ReplyDeleteFun drawing. I like all of the little details. What made you want to draw the interior of a cockpit?

Boredom, mainly. Once I got going on all those details, I started wondering how in the world those pilots could ever know what all the switches and dials do. Especially since I don't even understand all the stuff on my car's dashboard.
ReplyDeleteman, you hit that nail on the head. i think that the "changes" that have happened in the world to cause the sealed cocpits, taxi partitions and elementary school security are all the more reason that we need to continue to create art for young people. illustrated books allow children to be children and they give them an escape within their imagination from those things that push in around us every day.
ReplyDeletegreat observation.
Great post!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid I had my Lufthansa "wings" and can vividly remember my trip to the cockpit of a transatlantic flight - an experience some of my younger co-workers will most likely never experience...
Though I should mention that here in the Great White North, we still don't have taxicab partitions, and can play football right on Parliament Hill... though I doubt we're far behind...
