Wednesday is the day to cut loose a little with a sketch game called "Art By Committee,” where you illustrate an actual excerpt from a science fiction manuscript.
Everyone brought out their sense of drama and mystery, as well as wit. Thanks, gang! Be sure to scroll down to the end of the post for next week’s challenge.
And finally the drawing in the original “Art By Committee” sketchbook, which I’m afraid is a little gruesome. It must have been something in the coffee.
Here’s the challenge for next Wednesday: "Stone emitted a kind of bark -- ha! -- and showed his teeth again."Have fun! Please scale your JPG to around 700 pixels across. Title it with your name, email it to: jgurneyart(at)yahoo.com, subject line ABC, and let me know if you want me to link to your blog or website. Please have your entries in by next Tuesday at noon.

Great work, everyone! I was also thinking of zombies at the beginning, and Anna Meyers had a similar idea to mine... which seems to have landed in your spam folder -and I was proud that I managed to finish it on monday! Ah well, next week -the new challenge sure made me chuckle, and I hope to get started on it.

ReplyDeleteZombies were on my mind too, with Chukumbu lumbering into the half-light at a cemetary gate, but unfortunately I started a little late. Looking forward to jumping into next weeks challenge a little earlier though.
ReplyDeleteNice job everybody. Always fun seeing the different ideas. And pretty funny Dave. That cool bassline from the Barney Miller theme has been going through my head all day.
Abe Vigoda is indeed alive!
..uh, I meant Chukumbu.
Thanks, Rob.
ReplyDeleteI was worried that my gag was a little too obscure (at least to those under 30 or without TVLand). I look forward to your return to the "Committee".
And thanks again to Jim for providing us with a fun challenge every week.
Dave
Jen, sorry I missed your email and JPEG the first time. I found it and have posted your picture.
ReplyDeleteI love this blog, and the way you share your knowledge and beautiful art with us all. I wish I lived in usa and could participate in your classes. But alas here I am in Copenhagen :)
ReplyDeleteThese Art by Committee's, is this something anybody can join? I would love to throw in some doodles.
All the best and thank you for sharing.
Emil
Emil, yes, Art By Committee is a club open to everyone. It would be a great honor if you joined in. The art on your blog is brilliant. I love the quality of light in your Swedish forest picture.
ReplyDeleteNice ones, everyone! I immediately thought of a zombie, myself--not surprised to see that's where the original Art By Committee drawing went... :)
