Smith & Wesson
One year after 9/11, I met Joseph in a deli in Kingston, New York. He told me that he believed the end of the world is coming.
"I was a member of a gang," he said, "but I don't do that no more. I don't need to worry about no terrorists. I got a Smith and Wesson next to me all the time.

how long do you sit while painting? i'm usually good for sitting for about two hours then i have to get up and move around for at least a half hour. i feel that sitting for too long i lose intrest and it negativly effects what i'm working on. also i find my body becomes stiff and uncomfortable?
just wondering your work style and the work style of other artists here...

To answer the sitting question: It really varies. If I'm alone I'll sit and work almost straight through the painting, or at least 4 hours or so. If I'm in a studio I find that I'm too easily distracted and interested in what's going on with everyone else and I find myself getting up almost every 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which way influences my work better. I tend to do more in a studio, because I'm inspired by those around me. However, the piece itself is better on my own because I'm concentrating more.
Whenever I'm required to work on something for a grade, I immediately lose all interest in it.

and thanks for the other people who posted ideas about working habits...for myself i just dont see how i could be productive sitting more then two hours without a break. i always need to walk away after at least two hours, and i almost always come back renewed and seeing things in the painting that i couldnt see when sitting close up for a long period of time....
