Moleskine Loves Schmincke

Did you know that a Schmincke watercolor set opens up to the same size as a Moleskine watercolor book?


That means you can set up the paint kit on the facing page, next to where you need it.


You can clamp it to your Moley with a spring clip. The water cup is taped to the Schmicke so it doesn’t tip over and dump all over your work. Wrap some extra tape around your water cup, because tape always comes in handy.


With the rag in one hand and the brush in the other, you’ve got everything you need within reach. It will serve you if you’re leaning on a paddock rail, crowded into in an Irish pub, or perched a mountaintop.

    Great idea, I have a small W&N watercolor box that fits as well.
    Of course being left handed I will use the other side.

    Wonderfull sketch indeed.

    But the tape on the water cup, it's only on one side?
    Doesn't it still flip over (on the knee)?

    Erik,

    If you also tape it on the other quarter edge (that would be 12:00 and 3:00 using a clock, as the 3:00 position is what is shown in the image) it will not tip over.

    That is an amazing watercolor sketch James.

    Great tip James.

    I might just have to go and get a watercolour Moleskine now. My Schminke tin keeps begging to be be taken out as it's been sadly neglected since I took up coloured pencils.

    ...I thought about this then forgot to correct myself. Following the orientation of the painting the tape position shown is actually 12:00 and the other would be 9:00.

    Something else I've done is glue velcro to the bottom of a little water cup and the other piece to my palette

    Future Cap, yes, that's the little folding two-piece brush that comes with the watercolor set. You can get these things separately, too, as "travel brushes."

    Carol, loved your setup.

    Erik and Michael, yes, that tape is only on the 12:00 position, which holds it as long as you tilt it toward yourself.

    Caynazzo, it's a half pan set, which is big enough for a watercolor book. Even with that few colors I took some out (and stuck in a full pan of white, which I don't use much).
