Pen Disaster

Just heard a scream from the laundry room upstairs. Looks like I left my fountain pen in a load of whites. It busted up and bled in the spin cycle. Now we'll be walking around covered in strange brown spots.

  1. Bummer. Undermined by a mechanized labor-saving device. If this keeps up you'll have to switch to washtub and washboard. They pair well with a clothesline. At least the pen nib looks OK. I don't wish these events on anyone, but it's cold comfort to know I'm not the only one...

  3. Maybe you could toss all your pens in and call it tie dye?

  6. Jim,

Thanks for the laugh, you are lucky that your wife will put up with you. My wife is a wonder as well; it takes a special kind of spouse to love an artist.

Maybe you can stretch the clothes and let your creativity continue to spill out onto the mess you've made.

  7. I've done this myself. (Don't tell Jeanette—I do my own laundry.) Shrunk my wardrobe by a wash load of favorite shirts. I'll get to wear one of them next time I paint the bedroom.

  8. I'm no expert, but as far as I can tell from the picture, the pen does look clean.

Be glad that it's the whites. If it were the 'colors', bleach wouldn't even be an option.

And 3rd thing I think about, wasn't it Turner who would look at a young painter's hands to see they were stained or not? If not, he was not a real painter.
I guess the same goes for shirts, so wear your stains proudly.

  9. Soon, you'll be known in the neighbourhood as The Impressionists.

  10. Occupational hazard for the artistic type. I've lost so many favorite pens that way. Clothes, replaceable; favorite pen, not so much!

  11. I use nooodler's ink (supposed to be, by far, the hardest ink to erase - especially on paper) if i ever do that my shirts are gone..

Don't know if bleach would help, but perhaps dyeing everything an earth tone? if it is still wet perhaps 'kiss off' which I am sure everyone is familiar with...

  12. Maybe you can make some costumes out of the stained clothes?
I don't know what's worse. Ink or leaving a paper tissue in a pocket and having to pick thousands of little pieces out of the fabric.
