A fish with a transparent head. Proof that nature is way weirder than the imagination of science fiction artists like me trying to dream up aliens. ------ Via National Geographic 2009 videos .
Yes, weird, wacky, wonderful...whatever we call it... I love it! I guess what amazes me about this creature is that it reminds me of those old Visible Man see-through plastic models. I know there are some completely transparent fish and worms and such, but this guy takes it to another level. And when they explain the biological reasons why it works for him, it makes complete sense.
Nature is stranger than fantasy, just look at the creatures that are from the extreme deep of the ocean. How about those creatures who live near deep vents on the bottom of the ocean and live on sulfur, they don't breath oxygen. How alien is that, and it's right here on our planet.
I've seen this fish before on another blog, Zooillogix... To this day I still find myself thinking about it constantly! I keep wondering if that transparent dome is 'squishy' or what! Can something pressurized on the inside (as I'm assuming for its braincase and those eyes) be so weak on the outside? I'd like to see a submarine like this!
I see things like this as more like vehicles for aliens rather than the aliens themselves. I like to look at these spiders as well: http://www.picsroll.com/2009/02/beautiful-spiders-views.html
No matter how I look at this fish, it's difficult not to 'recognize' those nostrils as eyes. They eyes themselves I find impossible to 'recognize' as eyes. So when you say that nature is more inventive than artists like you...that's true...but the creatures you use in books or illustrations cannot be confusing like this one (except if it's on purpose). Why do the blue people in Avatar look so much like humans? Surely not because the concept artists lacked imagination, but because they had to work hard to make them human, even sexy.
Interesting Video. I See That A fish with a transparent head. Proof that nature is way weirder than the imagination of science fiction artists like You trying to dream up aliens.
More marvelous, not weirder, to me. Nature's marvels are infinite!!
ReplyDeleteweird is good, strange is bad, odd it when you don't know what to call someone- or in this case something...
ReplyDeletealiens...
they're all around us....
