Did you ever wonder what happens in slow motion when a martial arts expert whacks his hand against a stack of bricks? The fingers flex alarmingly.
The video also shows what happens when an egg drops onto a mousetrap, and many other examples of things being destroyed slowly.
What does lightning look like when it’s slowed way, way down? It turns out that there are discharges of many different frequencies. Multiple strikes travel over established channels.

Incredible stuff! You're right, the karate-chop was very odd. I'll definitely have to bookmark this for reference.
ReplyDeleteFascinating.
ReplyDeleteAnimators who claim they like going "realistic" so keep things fairly static need to watch slow motion videos like these. It shows how the extreme poses and absurd follow through's actually happen in real life, and add realism, not absurdity, when done right. I love how real life pushes extremes so much further than I'd ever imagine possible.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I like the bullet being fired through the three wineglasses--you can see the difference in effect between the entrance and exit from each glass.
ReplyDeleteThere's a great show on the Discovery Channel called "Time Warp" whose main premise is largely the same as this video (some of them are eerily similar-- makes me wonder which was first). The show takes ordinary (and often extraordinary) occurrences and shoots them on high speed camera with fascinating visual outcomes. Great stuff. http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/time-warp/
ReplyDeleteI love these; thanks for sharing. They're so utterly fascinating.
