I’ve been practicing art without a license—until now.
This Artistic License was made by Rick Allen of Duluth, a master wood engraver and hand printer. Each license has a unique number and makes three passes through the press, one for each color.

I used to have a California State Artistic license--I was one of the ones who was required to wear a Corrective Beret. I lost it, didn't get it revoked. But honestly, I enjoy creating without a license, more..........
ReplyDeleteI NEED one of these! Funny...
ReplyDeleteI've always liked the idea of an actual Artist's Licence that you can lose if you misuse it. "I'm sorry, I'm having your licence revoked. I'm going to have to ask you to hand over your badge and brush, please".
ReplyDeleteSee James, now you have yet another reason to come to Minnesota!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I would love to be able to whip this out whenever someone questions me!
ReplyDeleteWell deserved!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you only just received your licence.
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart to realize that this invalidates all your work up till now.
Oh, thank God! You were working this whole time without a license and didn't even know it. That could have been potentially very embarrassing. I am glad this oversight was rectified.
ReplyDeleteI must get one of these! I checked out the Kenspeckle Letterpress site but didn't find the Artistic License. What heading is it under?
ReplyDeleteHilarity!
ReplyDeleteUm...this is hilarious! I'm with silvina; can't find this exact piece on the sight. I'm sure there's some sort of secret handshake to get one or something...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all of your inquiries!
ReplyDeleteEveryone can have an Artistic License, not just the Big Guys. We are in the process of launching a new website (it should be live by this weekend) upon which the Artistic License will be featured. It costs a whopping $4.95 and is guaranteed to validate your inner artist or your money back!
Well, I now HAVE to get one... :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have one of these to put next to my round to-it. Always used to tell people I'd get a round to-it and someone finally gave me one . . .
ReplyDeleteI live in Minneapolis, and was vacationing up near Duluth the past week. Sadly their studio is open by appointment (or their whim, as their gorgeous sign indicates).
ReplyDeleteHad I stayed longer I would've asked for a visit!
