Visit with Everett Raymond Kinstler


On Friday I visited with illustrator and portrait painter Everett Raymond Kinstler in Connecticut. 

He's holding a palette once owned by John Singer Sargent. He used it for his own paintings for about five years, so that palette definitely has the juice now.

While we talked, I sketched his two yellow labs, who keep him company in his studio.

    Keith, he bought it a long time ago when it was relatively cheap. Of course he had to scrape Sargent's old paint off in order to use it, but the paint blobs were black. The Portrait Society is going to make replicas of the Kinstler/Sargent palette for various prizes.

    Wow! What an incredible opportunity to visit Everett Kinstler. I had admired his work ever since....well, it's been a long time. Needless to say, I look up to him. And how cool is that palette! Wow!

    He seems to be pointing to something on the palette. If so, what is it?
