Mr. X. (our dear Professor, who always puts things so tellingly): "In conclusion, I can only repeat what I said last Term—'It's all light and shade, Ladies, whether you're painting a battle-piece, a bunch of grapes, or a child in prayer!'"
Maybe I didn't get enough sleep, but I don't get the "joke." I like the drawing, though. Love your posts, though. I thank you for your good work.
ReplyDeleteWhen first starting to paint, I had to work around an older, more experienced, and very good artist... one day, he told me not to be so nervous and to relax a little, that you only had to know two things to make a great painting... Light and Dark... as we paint we are to handle the broad issues, then simplify... That cartoon brought back a lot of fond memories from some wise folks... thanks...
ReplyDeleteI once made a series of ribald cartoons lampooning the Punch cartoons, specifically Sir John Tenniel's style.
