I'll be in Texas this coming week as an artist in residence at Texas A&M in College Station.
The university is a leader in research, and the Department of Visualization is working on some exciting interdisciplinary projects with game-based learning, eyetracking, interconnectivity and digital animation.
If you'd like to see my lecture about the worldbuilding and picturemaking of Dinotopia, I hope you can come to the Geren Auditorium on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00 pm.
The lecture is free and open to the public.

And if you can't make it, don't worry—I'll be posting along the way about my sketching adventures in the Lone Star State.
Do you know if the lecture will be filmed & uploaded to the net?
ReplyDeleteCan't make it, as I'm several thousand kilometres away.... O.S. :(
Would love to be there.
I can't make it :( it is too far
ReplyDeleteBut i would love to be there

The One, I prefer not to put my lectures online because it's hard for me to think about the live audience and the YouTube audience at the same time. I adapted one of my lectures specifically for video here in this 15 minute presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrZ9GA-hiPI
ReplyDeleteSorry, Fransiskus -- maybe another time....
I was more thinking along the lines that the university might do it themselves?
ReplyDeleteIt would be a bit of a pain for you to have to do it :)
A lot of university's film their lectures as a matter of course, for their students to review.
Just wish that I could watch it is all.
Cheers
Thank you for posting this. My teacher is from Texas but there is a HUGE visualization design conference taking place this week in LA! I'll be going :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait!!!
Are you looking to journey as far south as Houston? There are some wonderful places for plein air painting! If I wasn't teaching high school I would totally find an excuse for coming to College Station.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I can't make it. If you ever want some awesome mountain scenery to paint you should come to Utah. You could get a lot of inspiration from the canyons and the mountains.
ReplyDeleteOh wow :-D You're lecturing at my alma mater, only 2 hours away?! Holy snap, I gotta find a babysitter!
ReplyDeleteDavid, I love painting in Utah--was just in Colorado and Wyoming.
ReplyDeleteThe One, Fransiskus, and Krystal, sorry to disappoint, but maybe I'll come to your area sometime.
Micah, no, we won't make it to Houston this time. We'll miss a lot here in Texas—big state!
Yeah! You are coming to Texas! Myself and a couple of friends are driving up from Houston to hear your lecture. I have been following your blog and want to thank you for so generously sharing your knowledge.
ReplyDeleteIt's so great your gonna be here! I'm looking forward to hearing your lecture. I have been following your YouTube and blog for awhile now and I really enjoy your posts and videos.
ReplyDeleteHi James,
ReplyDeleteIf you pass anywhere near Tyler, Texas it would be cool to meet you.
