Detail of Sommarnoje by Anders Zorn |
In his 1903 book "
Light and Water," Montagu Pollock describes reflections that create "a chain of loops or a series of disconnected rings. Such rings are amongst the commonest features of gently moving water in the foreground of a picture. The reflexions of a boom or bowsprit, or of any conspicuous horizontal line, often assume this form."

ReplyDeleteThank you, James for this wonderful open door to someone I didn't know. My kind of painting. And thank you, Jan, for the digital link. I've already downloaded it to study. Couldn't have done it otherwise... I'm still saving pennies to get William H. Gerdts' book "Once Upon an Island: Stephen Scott Young in the Bahamas"
