How the Immune System Works

In this YouTube video, Philipp Dettmer explains the challenges faced by the immune system.

The immune system is a complex subject, but the colorful animation makes it approachable. The video serves as a trailer for his book version:

  1. Loved the video—the story, the animation, the bright colors! It is a definite change from your particular type of post, that is, something about an artist, an artistic skill that is important and/or unique, a history of films, anecdotal information on how we look at and view art, and lots of other topics that somehow connect us to the world of art. This video doesn’t really fit in where others leave off. Any particular reason why you chose it?

  2. Ferrelli, Glad you enjoyed it. I just found the style of presentation and the clarity of writing made the subject compelling, and as a result I learned a lot. From the beginning I've kept the blog open to share anything that drew my attention.

  3. I thought by the age of 60 I knew a lot about everything, but even this short video showed me that there are much more things I have no clue about. Very entertaining way of learning, and from an unexpected direction! Thank you for being so open minded that you sometimes enter off topic subjects into your amazing blog!!

  4. I will just chime in and say that my younger son, now fourteen, discovered this channel a few years ago. He started talking about these things that kill bacteria in our bodies and I was utterly confused . . .he showed me the video (on bacteriophages) and I was extremely impressed, just in the ways described in these comments. He is able to tell me about these complex phenomena after watching one of these videos. I think anytime thinking, writing and art come together in a combination of good design is reason to celebrate and share. We simply need more of it! And I love your blog, by the way. :-) Paola Kindred
