Mat Board with Pencil and White Gouache


Here's an art tip: Ask your local frame shop for unwanted scraps of gray mat board. It makes a great surface for studies in pencil and white gouache.

    I suspect you could also coat with matte medium, and then used them for small, quick oil sketches/studies.

    Hi James I love the effect. Is this pencil glazed with gouache or pencil over gouache?

    Mark, As I recall with this one I did a light pencil layout drawing, then did the gouache and finished up with the pencil, going for texture and accents and deep darks.
