Painting a Beaver Dam in Winter

In this new YouTube video, I do a plein-air gouache painting of a beaver dam in winter, with a light coating of snow.

There was a lot of detail to capture. Since I couldn't paint every twig, I had to invent a way to suggest the detail using wet-into-wet passages and drybrush.

Here are the colors I used:

James. to me this is one of your most instructive videos. I like the way you order the layers of paint to show the underwater leaves, and the progression from the big picture to the details. You make it look so easy! And with beautiful results. I'd suspect it's difficult to do wet-on-wet with any water-based paint since it dries so fast. Does the winter conditions help to slow the drying? I really enjoyed this one.

Thanks, Bob. Actually the drying time was quite slow for this one, because of the cold air and dampness.

First of all: Happy New Year!

Recently, I got myself Gouache in The Wild course and it's packed with very good tips, Thank you for good learning material.

I have noticed you are arranging colors on your palette in specific order. White on top, then yellow and with black at the bottom. Is this value arranged or same other method?
