Art Program at the Rockwell

This coming Saturday, March 13, I invite you to join me at the Norman Rockwell Museum for an afternoon art program.

The event is free with admission, and will be fun for all ages. I’ll start at 1:00 with a digital slide presentation that shows what goes into making a realistic picture of an imaginary subject, including Dinotopia and other projects.

Then I’ll sign books, which will be available at the museum store. But you can also bring your old copies, too—the more tattered the better.

From about 2:30 to 4:00 we’ll draw dinosaurs together. I’ll do a couple of demonstration drawings, and I’ll bring a bunch of dinosaur models that we can all work from. I’ll try to answer whatever questions you have, and give pointers to artists of all ages—young people just learning to draw and experienced artists with specific questions.

The Rockwell Museum is always a fun place to hang out, and right now they’ve got a new exhibit of Rockwell’s fan letters in addition to "Norman Rockwell, Behind the Camera."

More information at the Museum site.

Admission is free for kids and teens thanks to support from Blantyre, Country Curtains, and The Red Lion Inn.

I wrote him when I was 13. I got a nice letter back from his secretary. He was quite ill, just before he passed away.

Stockbridge is a fun town to visit because many of his paintings used buildings (and people!) from there.

Also, if you're making the trip up there, the clark musuem (about 45 minute drive north, in williamstown0, is worth the side trip

Red Lion inn has a night pub in the basement for a less formal lunch.. also the ice glen, a short walk from stockbridge mainstreet, is a pretty dramatic rock formation.

I probably (hopefully!) can make it and look forward to seeing you and Jeanette.

Do you plan to do any talks/signings while you are in Amherst in June?

Bookish, When we're in Amherst for Illustration Master Class in June, we'll probably be busy with the class there. I'll probably be doing more than one slide lecture at that event.

Pen Name: I'd love to see the Ice Glen, and agree with you that the Clark is wonderful. They have a Boldini show which I hope to report on in a couple of weeks.

This is my first comment but I've been following you and your blog and I have just decided to dump my plans and the plans of my kids and drive up to the event from Long Island! My plans were very boring anyway and I've got a very tattered and well used book for you to sign! I'm happy to see a recomendation of where to have dinner also. See you there!
Oh, and I must learn more about this Illustration Master class.

I am so glad my daughter was sick today so I was home and browsing the web.

I just finished a whole "Dinotopia" lesson with my 4th-7th grade students! We started with making clay models of creatures, drawing them from 3 viewpoints, then chose a view to do a finished watercolor painting w/ background. Your pbook is a goldmine for the classroom.

My kids and I will see you there!

Aleina, I'll be giving a public lecture on July 12 about Howard Pyle and Composition at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. In June while I'm at the Illustration Master Class, I'll be giving a couple of lectures, but you have to be enrolled for the week to attend.
