Developing the Painting Style of The Dam Keeper

I somehow missed this mini-doc when it came out. (Link to YouTube) Directors Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi describe how they worked with a group of young painters to evolve the style for their 2D-computer-animated short "The Dam Keeper."

When I first started learning 3D software, AutoCad didn't have solids, it had wireframe. That was it. And I spent about a week slamming my head on a wall until suddenly it clicked. It made sense. And painting's the same way. You try and try and try and scream and try and break things in frustration and try and suddenly... it happens. You get better at it, you turn a corner.
