Jamming at the Flurry

Randy Jennings is the bass player for the the Nisky Dixie Cats, a 7-piece ensemble that performs Dixieland-style jazz.

Dave Crump is an ear trained musician who hosts big band and do-wopp jam sessions every week in his living room. I sketched them playing at the Flurry, a huge dance festival that happens this weekend in Saratoga Springs, New York.

What are your thoughts on the art industry in different countries? Are there enough opportunities to pursue art related careers anywhere in the world?

I have tried to sketch people and their instruments at various children's orchestra performances. While I can draw the instrument or the person, when I try to combine the two-- I find that many times I end up putting too much detail in the instrument that it overshadows the person. I love how you have found a good balance. It is a challenge for me to not overindulge my details on one part of the sketch over another some days.

Wow, I never knew about this event, even after contradancing for over 15 years! So glad you posted this. I often sketch the bands and the dancers, and the bearded guitar player is very very typical! I love your work and especially your helpful videos and tips to artists. Thanks!
