I first mocked up Dinotopia as a “Grand Tour of a Lost World,” structured like a travel guide. I was inspired by the lavishly illustrated books from the Dutch artist Rien Poortvliet. (His are ALL good.)
But novel-length picture books were rare in the book business. And I kept hitting the same problem: how do you frame a lost continent story?

Hi James! Just wanted to let you know that we recently shared your books with our 4YO and 2.5YO sons and they were absolutely mesmerized. It was so fun to see them be as excited about your books as my husband and I were when we first experienced them as kids. Thanks for your great work!
