Dean Cornwell Painting to be Offered at Auction

Dean Cornwell's original oil painting for "The Fight at Minowa" will be sold at Heritage Auctions on November 1, 2019.

If you haven't seen it yet, here's a glimpse of Cornwell working on that very painting. (Link to YouTube)

The Fight at Minowa will be at Heritage Auction, November 1, along with a lot of American wildlife and western art, illustration, and landscape painting.

I hadn't seen the video before. Wonderful. And I laughed so hard, I had to go back twice to make sure it was you as the gladiator. Seriously, you are so funny & your creativity knows no bounds.

Wow, I went to the Heritage site and it's temporarily down, they got hacked with malware. (Don't worry folks, apparently personal & financial info kept elsewhere & not affected. )

Seriously, were you the gladiator?

No, that gladiator was not me. Unless I unknowingly took a time machine ride.

If I had the money I’d be there at the auction! I saw this painting when I was in school and it made a lasting impression on me. This painting and all the Dean Cornwell illustrations from the novel, "The Robe”, were in a traveling exhibit promoting the motion picture. He was a true master of the art. Thanks for digging up the video. No matter what you say, I also think you were the model in the video. Great post, James.

Oh, pashaw… I was sure that you did a video clip in old style, with the flicker, etc. & put yourself in gladiator costume & cut yourself into the clip as a joke... it seemed so Gurney... (Sorry I got it so wrong, guys...)

Penny, what a fun idea. I only wish I had been ingenious enough to have thought of it and pulled it off.
