Planning a Lighting Scheme

I used two contrasting lighting sources for this painting from Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara. There's a low, warm, frontal light and a high, cool backlight.

I reality-checked the effects of such a scheme by shooting reference of me and my maquettes in the same light environment. The Bix maquette is by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

This is one of the thing Is love about your work: the way the light itself is such a creator of mood. Beautiful.

I love the effect of the cool light shining through the back of the striped cape, that's an awesome detail.

The dual lighting is most clearly seen in the foreground's horned dino -- showing its textured surface and thus imparting realism.

Why isn't there any more Dinotopia content? I'm surprised there isn't even a massive open world or VR video game for it. It would be amazing. I read the book to my three year old from time to time. He loves it.
