This daily weblog by James Gurney is for illustrators, comic artists, plein-air painters, sketchers, animators, art students, and writers. You'll find practical studio tips, insights into the making of the Dinotopia books, and first-hand reports from art schools and museums. Plus, for you lateral thinkers and pop-culture trekkers, a few bizarre rabbit trails.

The legendary newsman Walter Cronkite (November 4, 1916 – July 17, 2009) attended the release party of Dinotopia in 2002. He is seen here holding the animatronic hatchling "26."
That is so cool! Wow, what a life he lead. And how much poorer ours are without the likes of him in the news media today. It must have been difficult for him over the last ten years, watching what has happened to what passes for "journalism" today. I'm glad that he was able to get out to enjoy events like the Dinotopia premiere!
