Almost a Miniature Mom

Everyone at the farm was hoping that Skye, the miniature horse, would have her foal by Mother’s Day. But she’s not there quite yet.

She looks pretty uncomfortable. She stands uneasily and looks around every once in a while to see who’s doing all that kicking inside her.

Her patience will be rewarded. Three cheers for Skye! And thanks to moms everywhere for what you go through to make the rest of our lives possible!

Of all the conventional domesticated animals, horses in general seem to be the most ornery. I suppose they have been bred to be spirited.

I never thought to imagine how incredibly strong a horse's uterus would need to be to withstand the kicking of a foal strong enough to stand up right after being born and jump around. Pretty dern strong! How 'bout them giraffes!

Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers everywhere, including those, like ours, who've gone on to other realms.
