Talking Portrait: Dan, age 7, accordion player

Here's a new "talking portrait," a video where I combine archival audio with sketchbook art. (Direct link to YouTube video). When my son was just starting out with the accordion, I interviewed him rather formally. Over the next few years, I sketched many of the heroes he talks about at the Irish concerts we attended.

Wonderful set of images with that serious, knowledgable helium voice. Thanks for the heads up re: the concert. My daughter lives in Somerville; and has been by the Burren many times. She's going to try to make the concert.

I usually consider myself a "visuals" person, and I certainly enjoyed the visuals in this, but OH--that little boy voice!

This is soooo cool! I bet you would never have bet that your son would actually grow up to be a world-class accordian player!!

I found this link to an inteview with Dan G. where he talks about the influence of the places you took him to and sketched in your pictoral montage! Enjoy!

What a nice homage, so tender and personal.
And the pencil portraits are gems.

This bought tears to my eyes. Such loving portraits - and the fact that you took his music seriously from the very beginning, you're Aces! I have a grown son, and to be able to draw his portrait through the years - what a gift that would have been. Lovely post, great interview, and beautiful drawings.
