Jeanette and I painted the sunset from the parking lot of the Super 8.
Sunset at the Super 8, by James Gurney, gouache, 5x8 inches |
Jeanette Gurney - Texas Avenue - 8x5 inches, watercolor |
Jeanette faced across Texas Avenue, where construction cranes had been working all day building new apartments for the Texas A&M students. A few people driving by us on their way to and from the Sonic Drive-in stopped and rolled down their windows to say howdy.

These are great.
So nice to see Jeanette's sketch !
Gorgeous golden sunset!
That prominent warm-colored red "Super 8" goes along very well with Jeanette's overall cool colored red STOP-sign/design
Yes, love these. Totally am tempted to begin a life as an international art thief. I had the chance to attend your public lecture for VIZ dept at A&M. I thank you so much for the peek at your world building story. Inspiring and challenging at the same time.
Nice use of blue and orange there - I think Claude Monet used those a lot when painting his sunrises and sunsets. Either way, the fact that the two are complementary colors makes everything work.
Superb art. Lovely paintings to see. Hope you come up with more beautiful sketches in future.
The paintings are very nice, but "a raucous flock of...grackles"! The word-smithery is a beautiful thing to behold.
What a joy it must be to have a spouse who shares your passion for traveling and painting plein air! Looks like a great date!
