Death Cart
Maybe it’s the weird braincase, or the tufts of hair, or the chips of obsidian for eyes——but this guy gives me the creeps.
He’s part of a Death Cart (Carreta de la Muerte) Made ca. 1890 near Taos or Córdova, New Mexico, United States. Philadelphia Museum, link. Happy Halloween!

Yikes!
I agree, he gives me the heebie-jeebies. Perhaps he's in that uncanny valley of abstract and real that's doing it (the skin color/quality really caught my eye).
I didn't even notice the dimly lit pupils at first. I jumped a little when I did.
Creepy.
Aw, give the guy a chance - can't you see he's happy?
Looks like he's straight out of Nightmare before Christmas. His creepy leer is so full of personlity it's spooky.
This might just be the strangest thing I've ever seen on this blog. Perfect for all hallows eve though!
Keep on trucking James.
It's the eyes, they're ignorant but menacing, a terrifying combo.
I remember this being on exhibit! It gave me the shivers then and it does now! I hope you come to Philadelphia in the near future! :)
