Angry Animals

In Dinotopia, dinosaurs and humans humans get along most of the time. But not always.

If you drive a strutter through the Rainy Basin, don’t be surprised if you get attacked by a T. rex. (Image from Dinotopia: The World Beneath)

The same is true with animals in our world, as the following photos attest.

I don’t know the sources for these photos, so sorry, I can’t credit them. Thanks, Jim!

YIKES!! Have you had any animal encounters out while painting?

Land: Got hit with a big blob of white guano. It just missed the painting, but it might have improved it.

Even animals get grouchy sometimes. I've seen plenty of that happen on AFV.

I love the one with the seagulls... the gull in the foreground seems to be saying "... thats what you get!"

These are all great, though I have to say the seagull one reeks of photoshop. The person climbing is on a cloudy day, and the birds are all different lighting. The one in perfect focus in the foreground like a pulp horror novel tipped me off.

Oh and on the subject of animals (and dinosaurs)...

proof that dinosaurs do exist and are ancestors of birds. Proof. They can't fake this stuff can they?

You do not want to be chased by a Hippo. They look slow but the run faster than we do and if they catch you and bite you so long Charlie.

I've only had problems with Coyotes while walking my dog. This is in Boston by the way.

Yep, It's a good idea to respect an animals boundaries... These are great!
Funny that you posted this today.. had a discussion with someone earlier who didn't seem to "get" that animals will get frustrated with our ridiculous behavior (intentional or not)..

I haven't had any major animal encounters while out, but..
bugs always manage to fly into my paintings... :P

Love the monkey with the big stick picture.

I agree with Colin on the seagull photo, looks doctored to me. Aside from the lighting issues he mentions, the motion blur on the wings don't blend into the background well. Also the one in the upper right corner looks as if it is supposed to be carrying something (like a clump of grass, perhaps) but both it and the feet look wrong.

The rest sure are fun. The photographer getting clocked by the kangaroo is great.

The seagulls one is photoshoped.

Take a look at the light.
The sun is on the seagulls.
The light on the climber is hazy.

Besides that take a look at the size of the seagulls.

There is a forest close to where I grew up where I would occasionally go jogging. At one particular place, though, it was wiser just to walk: A buzzard had its nest in a nearby tree, and it would attack anyone moving above a certain speed. Walking, no problem; running - and it would come from behind like an incoming Stuka and strike the offender's head with its claws. You could also protect yourself by holding a branch above your head, but I preferred staying on good terms with the bird (and having an excuse to slow down for a moment).

I've sometimes likened my mother to an enraged cassowary, and sure enough the photo resembles some of our run-ins.

I'd love to see videos of these =D

The pics with da croc were like a scene from da movie Rogue (the best nature horror movie since Jaws). Wouldn't wan to be on the receiving end of any of those animals (definitely not the hippo or cassowary)
