Benedicto

Benedicto
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome,
dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.

May your rivers flow without end,
meandering through pastoral valleys tinkling with bells,
past temples and castles and poets' towers into a dark primeval forest....
down into a desert of red rock,
blue mesas, domes and pinnacles and grottos of endless stone.

And down again into a deep vast ancient unknown chasm
where bars of sunlight blaze on profiled cliffs,
where deer walk across the white sand beaches,
where storms come and go as lightning clangs upon the high crags,

until something strange and more beautiful
and more full of wonder than your deepest dreams
waits for you just beyond the next turning of the canyon walls...

Wow. Gorgeous painting. And that poem - hadn't seen that one before but it's really a marvelous adventure, isn't it?

"no comment" as would say Ed Abbey.

Lovely! Where is this?

Is this painted with a limited palette?

Diana, I did this painting about 30 years ago, and I didn't note down where I did it. Maybe someone knows the spot. I probably squeezed out 8 or 9 colors, but it is a pretty narrow palette.

Looks like the Desert Southwest. My guess is Southern Utah or Northern Arizona somewhere. I love these type of views- so much fun to paint.
