This painting will be one of 23 plein-air paintings and drawings exhibited at Olana in Hudson, New York. The show is called "Maine Sublime: Frederic Edwin Church's Landscapes of Mount Desert and Mount Katahdin." It opens June 9 and will continue through October.

Saw a Church exhibit in Tampa a few years ago. It was mostly field studies. Many were in various stages of finish or lack thereof. That unfinished work was very revealing. I loved seeing how he built up from transparent jewel like color masses. Don't think his normal habit was the one-shot painting.
