If you weren't able catch my portrait demo at the Portrait Society of America conference in Washington, no worries! Here's a front row seat, complete with super-speed action, blow-by-blow narration, and cheat-sheet notes. (Link to YouTube)
The original is available for silent-auction sale—if you're interested in it, maybe a friend of yours at the convention can put a bid on it for you. (Check Facebook or #artoftheportrait2016 on Twitter or Instagram.)

Thanks for a wonderfully compact demo James. The mixture of time-lapse, narration and the side-bar notes are very effective for the short piece. I'm not usually a fan of time-lapse demos, but for me this one works very well.
I'm interested in your use of both a fast and slow drying medium. Can you say a bit about the reasons for using both?
Not so easy "performing" under so many curious, scrutinous eyes - in an unfamiliar arena and sundry less-than-ideal variables. But so goes (demonstrating) painting. Golf applause. Nice!
Will have to look at it again in slow motion;.)...
Very informative video, with all what's happening on the canvas, and also on the palette.
Thanks!
Great work!, I saw the demo earlier today on Facebook. I'm more of a digital painter, mostly because of cost, yet your approach to painting a portrait is helpful! Hope you're enjoying your time at the conference. :3
I thoroughly enjoyed actually being there the full 3 hrs ( I was caught in the crowd shot). With all the quick sketch work you do of concert performers and diners and such, I was wondering what you were going to do with all that extra time!
I wouldn't mind seeing a 3 hour video of your painting that, actually. Haha.
