Very sad to know that race driver, car builder, team owner (and my cousin) Dan Gurney died today from complications of pneumonia. I'll miss his courage, tenacity, kindness, and humor.

I'm sorry to hear about Dan, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I think of you and Dan whenever I see a Gurney flap on some supercar wing - too cool.
Thank you for introducing Dan Gurney through your posts over the years. The vibrant yellow Pepsi Challenger car of his that you painted while interviewing him seemed to speak to his bright can-do disposition. What an inspiration! Warm condolences to the family.

My husband says Dan Gurney was the only person to win a Formula One race in an American-designed car, and that Dan was the designer. He’ll be missed.

I remember seeing his Toyota GTP Prototypes in San Diego in '92, when they dominated the IMSA championship. I was kind of upset with him then, as I'd always been a fan of the Nissan Cars that took Geoff Brabham to multiple championships. But he won me over the following year, with his personable interviews, and the way he let PJ Jones and Juan Manuel Fangio II. He seemed like a really fair team boss, and a really nice guy.
Sorry to hear. My grandfather just died of pneumonia also. His was rather sudden, but he was 95. No regrets. Full life.
Very sad new James, my sympathies
Autoweek had several articles in their hardcopy Feb 12 2018 edition. I tried to find them online and it looks like they were published electronically during January. They gave me a fuller picture of his life and accomplishments and how well regarded he was.
